Galileo was the founder of modern physics in the seventeenth century in two important ways. He established the scientific method and that followed defined the scope of the new science of physics. This station was very small and consisted mainly of matter and motion. Only matter and motion were not stained with subjective factors, personal, according to Galileo, and tthus suitable for treatment and scientific analysis. All the work of Galileo was taken later by Newton, who in the late seventeenth century itself, released his monumental synthesis of natural laws, the Principia Mathematica. These laws, powerful though they were still concerned only matter and motion. The effects of the causes were entirely predictable and the way the world worked came to be seen as a sort of giant mechanical contraption in the late nineteenth century, had been almost totally unexplored.

Soon he was found again. Lord Kelvin, an eminent physicist, expressed the prevailing mood: “There is nothing new to be discovered in physics now, all that remains is the most accurate measurements and more..” God had completely disappeared and the rupture between faith and science was well established and seemed permanent. God and his world were relegated to the realm of faith and belief only. The real world, the world of nature, was the sole competence of science. It should be noted that from the scientific point of view, the realm of faith and belief is our faith and belief, which were therefore the constructions of the human mind. God the Creator had made the creation of creation.

But this huge gulf between science and faith, few people worried, especially in science, when put against the spectacular successes that these laws of physics had generated in its industrial applications. Western Europe, where an area about to be invaded by the Ottoman Turks at the gates of Vienna in the late seventeenth century, they became masters of the world just two centuries later. Unfortunately, the nineteenth-century model of advanced new technology is based on dirty energy, non-renewable sources of raw materials, coal first in which oil and natural gas have been added later. The complex manufacturing of high use of these raw materials such as plastics and petrochemical industries, along with the industries of mining and extraction of them and the sectors of power generation and transportation, toxic waste have been so many permanent and degradation of land, sea and air are putting the planet in grave danger. In little more than a hundred years, and even without the full industrialization of developing countries, which are choking on waste poisons and industrial model first.

Naturally, the world has turned to technology to save the situation. However, the reality is that until now, the problems are still with us. The air is getting dirtier still, the desert is still expanding, the original forest with its price and unique ecosystems are being cleared for thousands of square kilometers a year and half the world is still malnourished. Entire species are disappearing at a rate that the earth and the sea may contain very little natural life in a generation.

Something is clearly not working. How developed the first industrial revolution was never very good, first, when their huge profits hit less than half the world’s population, leaving the other half completely undisturbed. The main reason for this is that the first scientific and industrial revolution, for all its impressive successes, it contained an inherent defect right from the beginning. That does not include an ethical component, which means that its multitude of applications focused exclusively on profit and wealth and power that comes with it. The benefits involve investment protection, which means that it must exclude all the benefits of what they are doing, unless you pay. In this system, of course, the poor must remain poor. Poverty can be addressed only if the profit motive is unknown. That’s where the ethics neglected component of ethics comes into play only with a force behind it is based on religion. In the eighteenth century, humanism tried to apply the principles of ethics without religion proclaiming the ethical advantages of working for the good of humanity. The first forms, idealistic communism and Fabian socialism emerged from this attempt. It was thought that people would work with “inexpressible ardor” for the good of all, that all forms of government or authority imposed wither. After only a few years of the French Revolution to become idealistic terror of crowds and the guillotine, and any doubts about the perfectibility of man by these means were fully confirmed by the blood-soaked century.

But religious ethics is not the pale, more or less humane and rational. Has shown great passion and fervor in the past, even in what is now largely perceived in the wrong ways, such as the Inquisition or the Crusades, undertaken in the name of that love that replaces the one who had heard come to arrest him. Nature has produced all the energy needed to grow the plants from the sun through photosynthesis, with high efficiency and a total lack of pollution. Today, we still have an old mentality when we think of new clean energy sources like solar, wind, even nuclear. Perhaps if we begin to look at nature differently, not from the outside with (often brutal) methods of exploitation in the name of profit, but from within, slowly learning their wisdom, we can find solutions that are new to our problems.

Of course, such fundamental societal changes take time. But if we have the ultimate goal in mind, we can do much, even in the short term, to save ourselves and our planet. The first industrial revolution will be with us for some time yet, no matter what we do. If we start adding a social conscience of our business models, if we start paying attention to the extreme gravity of the situation before it actually overwhelms us, if we apply what we know to stop the spread of deserts to clean up pollution and so on, we can begin the long process of real change. Not impossible, but it will take enormous will and energy. This brings us back to the need, already mentioned, to cross the chasm between science and faith, so that the energy inherent in both can be united.

Are textbooks becoming a thing of the past? In a time of increasing technology, many schools have started to turn away from traditional textbooks. There are more professors encouraging students to access the texts via laptops or digital reading devices. But some experts agree educators should not move so fast to embrace an all-digital classroom; that the traditional printed version of the textbook is still necessary for proper student learning.

Former university professor D. Chen recently wrote that there is a need for technology in the modern classroom. He pointed out that today’s generation of college students are accustomed to using technology to find information and agreed that younger people may be able to better learn in an electronic interactive format.

But the former professor also pointed out that traditional college textbooks are still necessary. Other professors agreed the actual reading from a textbook not only provided the student information, but also provides a student better discipline. There’s a fear that losing the reading discipline will have bad effects on developing students’ writing skills.

Reading from traditional print textbooks also helps students learn better patience. Modern technology allows students to get information quickly and with little effort. By not taking the time to search through a textbook, experts believe students won’t develop proper problem-solving and research skills. Professors and work counselors also fear students will be unable to independently use printed materials in the work world if there is not continued exposure to printed materials while they are in educational institutions.

Many professors agree multiple modes of technology can be used in the classroom. Information can still be transmitted digitally to students, but some university officials are reluctant to abandon the traditional textbook altogether. These professors and administrators agree the days of using printed textbooks exclusively are waning. But retiring printed textbooks in favor of electronic-only modes may prove more harmful.

College students are also joining the debate. Many say they prefer printed textbooks over electronic forms of information. Students say traditional textbooks allow them to write in the margins and use highlighters for important passages. That makes the books important study aids. They also add that a textbook does not require batteries or electricity.

As some of you may already know, the fact is that today’s text books are rather irresponsible in their approach to teaching students. Obviously this is my personal approach to the topic, but let’s be honest, have you seen how many “for goofs” books there are out today? Literally any topic all the way from losing weight to neuroscience is covered by these types of books. Now you may be wondering, “What is so bad about these types of books?” – and the answer is not that simple.

Firstly, let’s think about it. There are no “difficult” subjects pertaining any type of science. The problem however is, that it might be difficult to learn and study them. That is the difficult part – not understanding the topics. Thus, we might have a rather simple but truthful conclusion that “for goofs” books are for people that either do not have the time to learn something properly, or that they are just genuinely lazy. You decide which one is more viable.

Another thing is, that apart from the already established fact that people are reading these types of books, is the fact that the book writers oversimplify the text books as well. Thus, we can also conclude the fact that they have the approach that the reader is a rather unintelligent person. I mean, why would anyone want to write a super simple book? I am sure not for a person that has some intelligence! And obviously, this is a very bad signal for us.

Generally speaking, in my opinion, things that are difficult should be written as scientifically logically as it is possible – and not as “simple” as possible and with the approach in the regards that the reader is an imbecile. Through doing this, we make the people unsure of their values and of their knowledge – thus, we actually get the opposite effect that some intended in obtaining. Think about it: Is it not better to actually learn something really difficult and then be proud of yourself of achieving a difficult task? Rather than “learning” something simple, and then still be in the mental state as you have not achieved anything extraordinary. Decide for yourself, but give it a deeper thought.

Have you ever tried to explain human evolution to your children, well, it’s not easy, and therefore, there is a very good book I’d like to recommend to you, which is both illustrated and can help them at any age from five years old up until they graduate from high school. It’s a very good book and the name is;

“Humankind Emerging” by Bernard G. Campbell and James D. Loy, 1996.

The two authors are famous naturalists and they have been studying the fossil record. In this book they explain dating methods, evolution mechanisms, humans and primates, the behavior of primates, and pre-Hominid evolution. You will learn about Hominid behaviors, about Homo erectus, and about the evolution of society, language, the brain, and; how we got from there to here. There are chapters on the Neanderthals, and their culture and the potential eventuality of the future transformation of humans and technology.

The authors talk about magic, religion, art, science, and the human condition. This is a great book on this study of humankind. One of the most fascinating chapters was explaining how Hominids spread out to different regions of the planet, and how scientists believe or assume it all happened “Out of Africa Theory.” There are also very interesting studies on homoerectus and their hunting behavior, their aggression, as well as how they became more agrarian and dealt with climate changes and ice ages.

This book would not be for someone who is highly religious or just graduated from the priesthood, however, the author’s evidence in the fossil record is proof of their work. I believe this would make a great textbook for homeschooled children, or for those who grew up in a Catholic school and missed it, due to the subject matter.

This book resides in my personal library, and I believe it should be in every family’s library, because it answers the question of the origin of humankind. Indeed, I’d like you to please consider all this.
